The Biggest Loosers freak me out...

First of all I must admit, watching shows like this used to just make me feel horrible about myself. Until we signed on to do our show and now I am hooked on this type of show. Last night was the premier of "The Biggest Looser" I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the final weigh ins for the end of week 1. Did I miss something? Was it REALLY just one week? How in the hell did these people loose that must fricken weight? It was a time relapsed week right? A week of TV time vs. 3 months of "real time". What gives? How could these people have possible lost between 9 and 27lbs. Seriously one Guy lost 27 lbs in one week. I'd have to lop off a body part to do that in one week. (Hmmm which one should I sever? Where's my hacksaw?)

I am not quite sure what to do with that? Does it mean I am failing miserably by loosing only 7lbs in 2 weeks??? Perhaps, All I know is my goal is to loose at least 10 lbs a month for 10 months. That'll get me down to 150 then I can see from there.

I read a story about a woman who's family was so supportive that they sponsored her weight loss. Basically one friend said "when you have lost 10lbs I'll take you for a pedicure", another friend said "great idea, when you've lost 20 I'll take you shopping for a new pair of jeans", and so on ans so forth to help her loose all her weight. Her friends/family were sponsoring her and giving her a HUGE amount of motivation to get the weight off!!!

Anyone wanna sponsor me???

I'm a hardcore Biggest Loser fan so here it goes ...

How do they do it? First of all, they're screened by doctors. Their food is monitored by nutritionists. Women consume between 1200/1400 calories/day and men 2000 calories/day. They work out about 6 hours a day. I know that women will burn something like 4000 to 5000 calories/day and men 6000 calories/day. And then, the trainers help them identify the causes of why they're overweight. With that being said, a pound is 3500 calories, and all that exercise create a huuuuuge calorie deficit so do the math, lol!

You should check out Jillian's book "Winning by Losing" and if you need more inspiration, you can also watch the Australian version "The Biggest Loser" on YouTube.

Keep it up Coleen!

It's actually healthy to lose slowly. The number I often heard is no more than 2 pounds a week because more than that puts a strain on your kidneys. If you lose slowly, I've heard your chances of keeping it off increase. I've never understand about the Biggest Loser either. My husband has read about it, and he says that they focus on losing weight all day even though they don't show that on the show. I think they basically work out all day long. Don't feel overwhelmed by the show. It's tv, and even though it's reality tv, it doesn't always mean it's realistic! Your goal of 10 pounds a month seems good. I normally aim for 8 a month as that is 2 pounds a week. 7 pounds in 2 weeks is great! Don't let the show make you feel bad! Congrats on the loss.

You could always sponsor yourself by setting the goals and then rewarding yourself. I've heard of a lot of people doing that.

Don't let there numbers get to you. First of all, they starting weights are SO high, they have more fat and all that fat can hold more water. The first week of weight loss is mostly water weight as your body adjust to a new healthy diet. They are much bigger then you so their bodies hold on to much more water!

7 lbs is two weeks in AWESOME but don't get discouraged if it slows. 1-2 pounds a week will still get you to goal and your be more likely to stay there. (and not need ever facet of your life controlled they they have)

I know, that show bugs me. I don't understand how it's physically possible to lose 27 pounds in one week! They do nothing but exercise all day long and eat a limited number of calories. It is unrealistic because we can't do that. Last season the amount that the girls lost in the week before the finale was unreal to me. I found it hard to believe. That had to have been water weight. I think it's best to try not to compare yourself with them and just focus on losing a healthy amount.

I don't get biggest loser either! It's unfair! grrr! But, I do agree that losing weight more slowly is better for your body and you are more likely to keep it off.

I love what you said about SPONSORS though! I am going to get a few of my family and friends to sponsor me! =o) Great idea!!!

I will sponsor you. When you have lost your first 15 pounds I am going to send you something special in the mail just for you. I won't tell you what because you will just have to wait. Maybe what I will do is send you something special for EVERY 15 pounds you lose. I think that might be an even better idea. So, I will be watching your current pounds down on here and when I see it hit 15 you will be getting a little something-something in the mail. :)
